My research project was on how the treatment of bass frequencies in popular music have changed through technology. My final conclusion was broken down in to four parts:
1) music has gotten louder due to digital technology and mastering techniques
2) this loudness has meant the culture of listening has demanded these qualities in other forms i.e. film and multimedia
3) the treatment of sound and development of plugins has meant we can treat sound with much more availability
4) technology has allowed sound the be treated and sculpted using bass enhancing plugins like MaxxBass
I have attached my paper and a basic SuperCollider patch which demonstrates a how adding harmonics to a fundamental frequencies changes the sound.
